Children to fly aerial puppets at the Calstock Festival

Media Release 23.4.10

Cirque du Ciel has received £500 funding from FEAST to run a circus arts project at Calstock Primary school practising for a performance at the Calstock Festival. The children will get to help make and fly aerial puppets as well as walking tall on stilts or riding unicycles.

Charity manager, Ali Knight, said: ‘Cirque du Ciel is delighted to be running their first project in East Cornwall. Cirque du Ciel is a children’s circus charity that is based in West Cornwall and uses circus skills to help children reach their potential. It promises to be great fun and 16 children aged 9-15 have already signed up. Cirque du Ciel means circus of the sky so it is appropriate that children are going to make aerial puppets which are a cross between kites and pois.’

The club starts on place on Wednesday 28th of April and the children are very excited.

This has also been part funded by Calstock Festival, Calstock Community Primary School and Cirque du Ciel.

This will be the 21st Calstock Festival and the team of local volunteers have put a huge effort into making it extra special, from the line up of bands through to the all new comedy night from Jammy Cow Productions. There are also community performances from Little Beat, Cirque du Ciel and children’s workshops. The festival runs from 3-6 of June and is open to everyone.

FEAST is a programme that helps you make great art happen in Cornish villages and towns.   Our ambition is to touch and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds and generate a whole new wave of creative activity in your communities.”
